Finding my way in the new online educations world

It's a long way to earn 100.000 euro online, so I have set myself another quest: Find a suitable online Masters degree. Why? Just for the knowledge Trying to find my way in the new online education world. Been a while since I have passed my Masters of Business (would be 7 years ago). In the past years I been busy building my own business (running a design agency), but I notice the marketeer and financial guy in me were not happy. So I have started to search everything I could find about the new online education programs, online masters of education and bachelor degrees. I don't think I have enough sparetime to post on a daily basis, but I will try to do post as frequently as possible. Major mistake AOL made by releasing search data that includes 20 million web queries from 650,000 AOL users and get this the data contains personal information and with a little cross referencing it's worth gold. Two great tools for bloggers and publishers to monetize your online presence.

First tool is google trends which shows you the pattern of your specified keywords or as google puts it "..to compute how many searches have been done for the terms you enter relative to the total number of searches done on Google over time". Google trends doesn't output any specific number just a trend over time. All you have to do is find the keywords that show a rising curve and anticipate it will rise even further. Take a look at google trends on Adsense, for instance The second tool I would like to share is also from google. This time you must have an adwords account or create one and check out Estimator. Google's estimator tool is intended for CPC and traffic data, but with a little imagination it could also be used to predict what advertisers are willing to pay. Some say it's not as effective as 2 years ago to submit your articles to the different directories, but it costs nothing and I already written the article, so...... How to get some extra website traffic for free (well almost)

My first little article You have done all the regular optimization stuff and want to attract some extra website traffic for your precious website. Your budget is just enough to buy a hotdog and coke. Well buy yourself a hotdog and coke this little tip costs you a lousy $0.20.

The regulars

So here you are for some extra website traffic information or inspiration. Before I start, make sure you have done your regular website traffic optimizations.
You have build your website. You made sure your website is conform the latest Search Engine Optimization and you have put enough good content on your website. Depending on your website you have created a RSS feed and submitted your feed to the different engines (tip: rss-specifications).

All these things have a high geek/nerdy level. Their purpose is to get your web pages, which make up your website, indexed by all the major search engines (i.e. Google, yahoo and msn). So people who search on certain keywords can find your website. You can find a lot more information by using a little google magic.

Off line and other things

Promoting your website off-line would be putting it on all things you can think of. You put your url on t-shirts, car, bike or any other merchandise. You could even grab a crayon (please don't use a spray can) and put it in front of your home on the streets or in the busy street down town. Of course this all depends on your website content.

Let's make fun

Now for the fun part: promoting your website online for free or with a tiny budget. My next promoting tip will cost you $0.20 and it goes as follows. You draw a nice simple funny picture, make a funny photo or make a screen dump from a non-regular web page. If possible try to come up with something that is relevant to your website. When you make a screen dump and you browse with firefox make sure your other tabs point to your own website.

I have done the latter and made a screen dump of a Google error page. As we all know Google is almost never down and to have a screen dump of a Google error page is rare.

After you have your funny, scary or rare digital item you put it on eBay as an auction. Yes, this is the fun part. You come up with a funny, exciting description. Remember to display your website url in your description at least three times. Make it red, bold or whatever as long as it stands out. Remember to put an ebay viewing counter in your auction description to check your total auction views. Also make sure you have got a descent web statics program to check which are your referring sites. (I use the free awstats).

For inspiration you can check ebay's category Everything Else > Weird Stuff. You might want to put your auction in category Everything Else > Weird Stuff or a subcategory.

Next thing to do is to submit your auction to:

wayoutauctions
strangebids
bizarrebids

And hope your auction will create a buzz. You will find a lot more weblogs and websites which solely concentrate on rare auctions.

With my ebay auction I had 1276 views on ebay, 134 clicks from ebay which make a 10 % CTR. In my opinion an almost free marketing campaign with a 10% CTR is not bad. And I am definitely sure that you as a native english speaking person can do a much funnier description, which would be pick up faster by the weblogs.

There might even be person who bids on your auction and you earn your initial $0.20 back or even way more. In my case there was no bid.

Especially the medicine or medication spam stumbled me. I guess there must be a market out there to sell these medicines or medications. But what does pheromone or Cialis have to do with making money. Unless you sell this medications or provide resources for making them I couldn't see why they would get in so much trouble just to sell pheromones and Cialis. But then it hit me when I read Andy Hagans post about Multiple Monetization Methods. No it wasn't one of the 3 Methods but the Overture's View Bid Tool link. Guess what I tried the medicine (or medications I don't even know what it is) Pheromones, Pheromone and Cialis and they all turned out to be quite high if you look at Advertiser's Max Bids. Frustrations

Like to share my little frustrations. Ever since I have set myself the quest to make a 100000euro online I am looking for the holy grail out there on the web. By which I mean golden tips on adsense or other advertising networks, like Yahoo Publishers Network (YPN). Pitty for me YPN is not yet available to me as a non US citizen. So I have check out adbrite, fastclick, tradedoubler, chitika eMiniMalls and adgenta.

Adbrite seems promising if you have enough impressions/page views as adbrite is a so called CPM advertiser. Downside so far with adbrite, nobody is taken my offer or isn't impressed with my traffic or website. Maybe I am to impatient (signed up a week ago).

Signup and it was ready to use. CTR on these adverts are not so good. But I do like it that you can choose the keywords for your post, so you are in control of the ad your website visitors see. And it works a little bit like this

I am still trying to combine the two. I have send Google an email asking if it's allowed to have adgenta and adsense together on one page and they say it was allright. I guess the main reason would be the fact that Adgenta is not contextual vs Adsense is. Froogle for Cafepress and for spreadshirt

We already know Google dominates the search engine market. Has their own photo editing program picasa. Tries to compete with skype with googletalk and even have their mobile services Croak!!!Croak!!! It is estimated that 10- 20% of Google users shop via Froogle (not mine got this fromsearchenginegenie) So having your shop displayed on Froogle is a must. I must rectife my last post, my panic attack. I have received a comment and email from [tag]Maheesh[/tag] founder of cafepress.com.

I think you are mistaken with regards to our terms of service. Our terms of service explicitly say that the artists keeps all rights to their artwork and that they can close down their shop at any time.

I believe this email is legit and hereby like to apologize to all Cafepress fans (and Maheesh ofcourse) for my panic attack. I should do my research first, but the intention of 100000eurohomepage is partly learning by doing. Furthermore I am glad Maheesh sent us an email as spreadshirt don't have products for toddlers. Therefore I won't delete my previous post but will make it clear my panic attack wasn't justified. Positive thing about this:

I am glad he warned me because we want our designs to be ours (unless we sell them ofcourse). The next thing I did was opening an online shop at spreadshirt for Europe and I will open one for the USA. Dutch delight Little disappointed about their product range (no toddlers bib's for example) and their start prices are quit high. WARNING: This was an unjustified panic attack. Cafepress is LEGIT But their TOS reads:

Opening up our cafepress online shop

Laurette makes designs Whenever Laurette has the time she doodles some illustrations which never see the daylight. She is only showing them to me. Now with our quest to [tag]make money online[/tag] all those illustrations from the past have a purpose. These [tag]illustrations[/tag] will become part of our product range. Cafepress has a large range of merchandise. So we thought of a name for our online shop. Decisions and choices Setting up Cafepress Registration at Cafepress and setting up an [tag]online shop[/tag] was easy. As we have our own design agency preparing and uploading our design wasn't difficult either. Adding our design to the different products was a little trickier. Somehow I can't get the same product with different designs. I will look into that the coming week. Customizing our online shop isn't possible either. Well we can upload a logo and have our customized header. I think Laurette will take that for her account. I guess you can customize your online shop when you have a premium account. But we haven't got any revenue yet so we can't spend any money (remember rule #1). We leave our online shop in Cafepress default design. Which illustration to start with? This decision was very easy, as you might have read in about us, we are expecting our first baby. Our choice felt on "Sunshine" to put on baby and toddler products. Search for [tag]adsense placement tips[/tag] I came across this nice blog http://adsense.blogspot.com I right away implemented the havent-linked-up-yet [tag]adsense tip[/tag]. I just created a php-file with 5 text links and included this file in [tag]Wordpress[/tag] header.

Having surfed the web with firefox for half a year, I really want to recommend it to you And my first [tag]affiliate[/tag] is a fact.

Why adsense doesn't show us any ads?

Google adsense Next to placing [tag]banners[/tag] on your weblog the most obvious [tag]online profit[/tag] would be an advertising program. Like I said in an earlier post, we got an google adsense account based on another website I run: BLDD. BLDD has nothing to do with [tag]making money online[/tag]. My idea for 100000eurohomepage banners elaborated

First money making product?

Placing banners on your weblog is an obvious potential profit maker. The hard part would be selling your banners to customers especially if you are a start-up. In fact setting a price and a period for banner placement isn't easy either. By selling 10 banners for 1000 €/month our quest will end in 10 months or better yet selling 10 banners for 10000 € ;) Back on earth Meanwhile back on earth I had an idea about placing banners on 100000eurohomepage and setting the price(s). My idea is inspired by a couple of things:

Coming up with a money maker formula Banner placements I started to sketch some banner placements on paper and considering this is a weblog the result is: Two columns of banners on the left and right side of our weblog. Each banner is 120 width x 60 height. 30 on each side makes a total of 60. Of the 60 banners 16 banners are above the line (banners which are visible without you scrolling down 1024x768) Price So the next thing to do is to set a price. Which depends on the placement and time period for a banner. Based on eyetracking I have divided the banners in 8 groups. The price range from low to high would be:

Ok what's in a phrase? According to Google it is a well used phrase if you build it they will come. Google returns about 150.000.000 hits. No way this post will show up in google. Build it I really like Wordpress for blogging (this is my 3th wordpress blog), mainly because I can edit the source code myself and upload it to my own server. One of the great features of Wordpress is their plugins. Plugins are created by users some of the plugins are great and other can be a little buggy. The 3 plugins I always install:

We didn't put our website live but I still got the website pages online for you to watch. My twist was the fact that you could join us! (read the bottom of the old page) The payoff I was planning to use sounded:
